This week's featured poem is brought to us by our partnership with the IndieFeed Performance Poetry Channel, which will be contributing their entire 1600 poem archive of the show's run to P4 in January.
Through the four parts of this poem Rick explores the concept of death and mortality in a global sense (the first part), loss and the willingness to let go of the things we love (the second part), the desire to not go into the void alone (the third part), and finding peace in the way life goes on through the children. It’s a wonderful little journey of a poem, and one that is made all the more satisfying through the description of the voiceless presence of Addie, who seems to become a projection of us, as the listener, somewhat unwillingly dealing with the life and death questions the poet is raising. It’s a short little piece, but one that is immensely satisfying.
